On March 29th, 2024, June Hayward joined the heavenly choirs. She is now singing praises to her precious Savior and Lord in utter joy.
Born on March 11, 1929, in Anoka, Nebraska, Dalphynie June Koskan was welcomed into this world by her parents V.J. and Pauline (Fisher) Koskan, and three brothers, Allen, Paul, and Jim. She was baptized on March 30, 1930, and grew up as a cherished daughter and sister in a close loving Christian family.
June graduated from high school in Butte, Nebraska in 1946, and moved to Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska. There she studied Vocational Education. She also met and fell in love with a handsome young man named Glenn Hayward.
June graduated from UNL in 1950 and taught home economics for two years in Plainview, Nebraska, before marrying Glenn on July 20, 1952. They both taught for a year in Holbrook, Nebraska, before Glenn was called home to Humboldt to help on the family farm. God blessed Glenn and June with four children, and they taught them, by example, to love their Lord, to love each other, and to serve others in their community. June taught home economics at Humboldt for over twenty years. She was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church and various other community groups. She was the quintessential farm wife of her time – gardening, canning, raising baby chicks, and sewing. June loved to sew, making many of the clothes her family wore, as well as special outfits for her grandchildren.
A kind and humble woman, June’s life was anchored in her faith and lived in joy and contentment. She will be missed.
Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Allen and Paul, and her husband Glenn, June is survived by her brother James L. Koskan of Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law Dale (Janis) Hayward, Lincoln, NE; her children, Jerry (Sue) of Severna Park, MD; Dennis (Kathy) of Raymond, NE; Glennda Hedlund (David) of St. James, MN; Lorrie Novak (Mark) of Dawson, NE; an honorary daughter Tami (Norm) Stoehr-Kreps, grandchildren: Christopher Hayward, Michael (Callie) Hedlund, Kate Hedlund, Eric Hayward, Rebecca Hayward, Nick Novak, Natalie Novak, and honorary granddaughter Kelsie Kreps, great grandchild Neal Hedlund, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Pat Riley officiating. Interment will immediately follow services at the Starr Cemetery in rural Humboldt.
