Edward O. Taft, 69, of Falls City, NE, passed away July 20, 2023 at Omaha, NE. He was born July 12, 1954 at Falls City to Cleo and Helen (Knobbe) Taft.
He married Glenda Sickel on March 4, 1978 at Bethel United Methodist Church.
Ed was raised north of Falls City and attended Maple Grove School until 8th grade. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1972. Following graduation, he worked at Strausville Grain and in the fall of 1972 he became employed for the Missouri Pacific Rail Road. The couple moved to Plattsburg, MO in 1992. He became a brakeman under the Union Pacific Rail Road and retired as a conductor in 2014 and moving back to Falls City in 2016. He also helped with the family farms through the years and he enjoyed traveling, taking motorcycle trips with Glenda and snow skiing. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Falls City Elks Lodge and UTUIA.
Ed is survived by his wife, Glenda of Falls City, brothers, Bob and his wife Connie of Falls City, Kevin and his wife Kay of Falls City, Steve and his wife Lisa of Yutan, NE, sisters, Connie Vonderschmidt and her husband Kevin of Rulo, Mary Lyons and her husband Jim of Omaha, NE, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Jim Meysenburg as the presiding priest. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be held on Friday, July 28, at 3:00 PM at Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
