Laurence “Larry” James

Laurence “Larry” Charles James, 77, of rural Du Bois, Nebraska was born on March 18, 1946, in Holdrege, Nebraska to Ardelle Francis and Charlotte (Hansen) James.  Larry attended school in Dawson and graduated from Dawson-Verdon High School with the class of 1965.  He continued his education at Hastings Technology College where he received a degree in agriculture in 1968.  Larry worked in various farms and for different farmers before coming back to the James Dairy Farm in Verdon, Nebraska in 1968.

On July 18, 1981, Larry was united in marriage to Juanita Vollmers at the United Church of Christ in Steinauer, Nebraska.  The couple moved to a farm near Du Bois, Nebraska in the summer of 1993 and Larry continued to work as a hired hand for various farmers throughout the local area.  Between 2005-2008, Larry worked on the harvesting crew and even survived a heart attack with surgery in August of 2008.  He enjoyed time with his family, and anything John Deere or Snap-On Tools.

Larry passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of seventy-seven years, two months, and twenty-three days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patty Lou James, both grandparents, step-brother-in-law Orville Henry, and step-sister-in-law Mary Ballue.

Larry is survived by his wife Juanita James of rural Du Bois, NE; children: Christina James of Pickrell, NE; Charlotte Wallace and husband Ryann of Beatrice, NE; John James, grandchildren: Coby and Elizabeth Wallace of Beatrice, NE; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Wilson and husband  Tom of Shawnee, KS; brother Richard “Dick” James and wife Jennifer of Verdon, NE; step-sister Marie Henry of Palmer, AK; step-brothers: Tom and Don Ballue both of Osage City, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pawnee City, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Llewellyn officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

Interment will be at the Salem U.C.C. Cemetery in Steinauer, Nebraska
