John Jerome Ramsey, 83, of Dawson, NE, passed away September 23, 2022 at St. Joseph, MO. He was born December 10, 1939 at Butler, MO to Wyatt and Alice (O’Grady) Ramsey.
He married Karen D’Ann Gutner on August 10, 1968 at St. Joseph.
John was raised in Butler until moving to Nebraska in 1945 and graduated from Dawson High School in 1956. After graduation he attended the Omaha School of Business and then Peru State College to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in teaching. He received a job as a high school business teacher and track coach at South Holt, MO. He continued his teaching career at Vandalia, MO and then to Oregon, MO. John earned his Master in Secondary of School Administration at Northwest Missouri State. He went back to the family farm in 1971 and was the principal at Dawson, NE. John continued his administration as a superintendent at Table Rock, NE and then at Elk Creek, NE. In 1979 he became a full-time farmer. During his career he worked at CNS, worked construction, including building the Ameristar Casino and in the trucking industry. John raised thoroughbred horses in the mid-1970s to 1991. He is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson and Elk’s Club #963.
John is survived by his wife, Karen D’Ann Ramsey, son, John Michael Ramsey and his wife Alison of Melissa, TX, daughter, Julie Bauman and her husband Matt, brother, Wyatt Edward Ramsey of Bellevue, NE, grandchildren Morgan, Madison and Makenna Ramsey, John Merlin (Lydia), Kyle Matthew and Rachel D’Ann Bauman. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James and Charles Ramsey and a sister, Mary Alice Reschke.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday 28, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Hoesing as the presiding priest. Interment will be at Verdon Cemetery.
A parish rosary will be Tuesday at 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. Family will receive friends following the rosary.
