Lena Haeffele

Lena Haeffele, 100, of Sabetha, KS, passed away on December 9, 2019, in Sabetha. She was born on October 18, 1919, at Falls City, NE, to John and Bertha (Bertram) Gerdes.

She married Paul Haeffele on May 12, 1972, in Gladstone, MO. He passed away on November 28, 2004.

Lena was raised in Falls City, and following her schooling, she worked at a restaurant in Hamlin, KS. She then moved back to Falls City and worked at the Falls City Creamery for ten years. She then took employment at Southeast Nebraska Telephone Company as an operator. She retired in 1962 after 32 years of employment. When married, the couple established their home in Falls City and in 2001 moved to Sabetha, where she has lived since. She was a member of the Northridge Church at Sabetha.

Lena is survived by a step-daughter, Kathleen Bauer and her husband Wayne of Chadler, AZ, sister, Bertha Kruse and her husband Leo of Sabetha, step-daughter, Karyn Wilkins and her husband Ted of Chandler, AZ, step-great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Hallie, Madison, and Tyler Wilkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Lloyd, Wallace, John, Charles and Betram Gerdes, sisters, Marie, Mildred, Lila, Gladys, and Evelyn.

Her funeral was held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Charlie Robinson officiating. Interment was in Steele Cemetery.

Open visitation and viewing began Tuesday evening at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
