John Harkins Lichty Jr.

John Harkins Lichty Jr., 85 of Plattsmouth, NE formerly of Omaha, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.   

He was born on February 2, 1933, to John Harkins Sr. and Celia Jane (Harkins) Lichty in Falls City, NE. John was raised and schooled in Falls City, and he graduated from Falls City High School with the class of 1950. After graduating from high school, John attended Ashland College in Ohio for a year and then Hastings College in Nebraska for two years. Then he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict for four years from 1952 until 1956. He met H. Margery “Marge” Smith, and they were later married on February 20, 1954, at the Benson Presbyterian Church in Omaha. John and Marge made their home and raised their children in Omaha, and he worked in the records department for over twenty years at the Douglas County Sherriff’s Department.

John was an elder at Benson Presbyterian Church, and he was a member of John J. Mercer Masonic Lodge #290 A.F. and A.M., American Legion Post #1, V.F.W. Post #2503, York Rite, and Shriners all of Omaha. 

His wife survives him: Marge Lichty of Plattsmouth, NE; son: John Lichty and wife Jan of Omaha, NE; two grandsons: Jason R. and Michael A. Bequette, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents: John Sr. and Celia Lichty, his daughter: Lynn Leigh Lichty, and his sister: Betty Jane Tubach.

A Memorial Service was held at 1:00 P.M., on Thursday; November 8, 2018, at The Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth with Pastor Chris Abbott officiating and Mason Rites will be conducted by the John J. Mercer Masonic Lodge #290 A.F. and A.M.

His Final Resting Place will be at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the Family (A suitable charity will be chosen at a later date).
