Preparation is underway at the Office of the Richardson County Clerk for the Tuesday, May 15, 2018, Primary Election. March 1, 2018, was the non-incumbent filing deadline. A complete list of candidate filings on record at the Richardson County Clerk’s Office who will be considered for nomination at the Primary Election are listed below with the incumbents denoted with an *.
County Commissioner District 1 seat is up for a four-year term—John J. Caverzagie (R); Kala J. Richey (R); and John R. Coonce (D). District 1 serves the following precincts: Falls City Ward 2 south of 21st Street, all of Falls City Ward 3 and Falls City Ward 4. County Assessor: Pamela G. Vice* (R); County Attorney: Douglas E. Merz*(D); County Clerk of the District Court: Pamela S. Scott*(R); County Clerk-Register of Deeds: Mary L. Eickhoff*(R); County Treasurer: Amanda Bartek-Young*(R); County Sheriff: Donald L. Pounds*(R) and County Surveyor: Robert Tichy*(D). These candidates will advance to the General Election ballot. School Districts 56 and 70 all have three positions up for election this year with up to six candidates being considered for nomination at the May 15 Primary Election to be voted upon at the November General Election.
Persons who have filed for these positions are: School District 56 four-year term—John E. Martin*, Richard Malcolm*, Kevin L. Scheitel*, Joseph M. Jarred, Tedd A. Gilkerson and Bob J. Campbell; School District 70 four year term—Scott Ogle*, Neal A. Kanel*, Leah Reyes and Tim Schaardt. Candidates for both school districts will advance to the General Election ballot. The City of Falls City and the City of Humboldt have both Mayor seats and Council Member seats up for election to a 4-year term.

The Airport Authority in the City of Falls City has 1 member up for election for a 6-year term. Persons who have filed for this position are: Ed O’Grady* (advances to the General Election). Republican Party County Convention: Those registering thus far are: Vincent Metzner, Pamela S. Scott, Gerald W. Bohling and Mary L. Bohling, Richard Halbert, Gayle A. Swisegood, Philip E. Bletscher and Charlotte Gentry. Local candidates who have filed for the Nemaha Natural Resources District Board are: District 8—2 year term: Eldon Snoke; 4 year term: Donald Siske; District 9—William Niedfeldt; District 10—Alan Romine; At Large—Russel Moss. The candidate filing deadline for Village Board of Trustees and Educational Service Unit #4 is July 16 for incumbents and August 1 for non-incumbents and these candidates will appear on the General Election Ballot, November 6, 2018.
