FRED ‘MARV’ HARRING

Fred “Marv” Harring, 84, of Falls City, passed away Saturday, Nove. 5, 2016 at Falls City. He was born on April 23, 1932 at Salem to the late Fred T. and Violet M. (Arnold) Harring.

Marv was raised in the Salem area and graduated from Dawson-Verdon High School in 1950. He farmed with his father for two years and entered the U.S. Air Force on May 23, 1952; he was honorably discharged in 1961. He returned from the service to live in Pawnee County and later in Johnson County before moving to Lincoln in 1961 to take employment with the Department of Corrections and later the Department of Roads. Marv retired in 1987, after serving the State of Nebraska a total of 25 years. In 1991 he moved to Verdon, served on the church council, and was a Boy Scout Master Leader in Hickman for several years.

He married E. Pauline Schulze at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Verdon on Aug. 12, 1956. She passed away on Jan. 7, 2004. On July 28, 2005 he married Carolee Shelton Kendall at Falls City. Marv and Carolee moved to Lincoln to be closer to family and moved back to Falls City in May of 2016.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20th and Towle St., Nebraska Police Officer’s Association of Lincoln, DAV Chapter #43 of Falls City, and American Legion Post #102 of Falls City.

He is survived by his wife, Carolee, of Falls City; daughter, Martha Harring, of Tecumseh; sons, Mikel Jon Harring, of Lincoln, and Eric Dale Harring, of Winston-Salem, NC; step-sons, Jeffery Miner, of Lincoln, James Minor, of Temple, TX, and Christopher (Rebecca) Miner, of Fairview Heights, IL; step-daughters, Georgia Beckner, of Falls City, and Leslie Gail Cluck, of Troy, KS; brother, Walter (Barbara) Harring, of Lincoln; sister, Colene (Bill) Hance, of Lincoln; half-sister, Ilene Kimes, of Humboldt; grandchildren, Christine, Michael and Brittany Harring, Thomas Root and Matthew Harring; 10 step-grandchildren.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and step-brother, Harlan Harring.        

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Andrew Chavanak officiating. Inurnment at Steele Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard. No viewing of visitation will be held.
