Art students from the Falls City and Humboldt regions basically swept the Nebraska General Federation of Women’s Clubs Art Contest held in conjunction with the 120th NGFWC State Convention last weekend at the Doubletree by Hilton at Omaha.
Rita Seid, coordinator of the local district contest and the person who transported all of the pieces, said that the talent of the Falls City and Humboldt students just stood out.
“Obviously, the judges were very impressed,” she said. “The quality of entries that we receive for our district contest is amazing.”
The entries that placed in the district competition advanced to state. The pieces had to be original work, and completed within the past year.
The biggest winner of the weekend was Trey Drake, an eighth-grader at Humboldt-TR-S. His acrylic entry received the Best of Show award out of all of the middle school entries. It also placed first in the acrylic category.
“There were only three Best of Show awards given out at state,” Rita said. “For elementary school, middle school and high school, so this was a huge deal for Trey.”
