Bettye J. Johnson, 92, of Falls City, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at Falls City. She was born Feb. 13, 1923 at Howe, NE, to the late LeRoy and Lena (Weick) Rumbaugh.
Bettye moved from the Howe area to the Falls City area and later to Barada with her parents and attended Barada School.
She married Harold Johnson on Dec. 21, 1940. When married, the couple established their home in Beatrice; moved to Lincoln in 1964, to Ankeny, IA in 1967 and to Falls City in 1981. Bettye worked at J.C. Penny’s in Iowa Falls, IA, from 1956-1961, in sales for Wilke Baking Co. in Lincoln from 1964-68 and at Colonial Baking Co. in Des Moines, IA, from 1972-81. Harold passed away on Sept. 25, 1992.
Bettye was a member of the First Christian Church in Falls City.
She is survived by a sister, LaVerne Yoesel, of Falls City; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Maxine Sailors.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment at Steele Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
