RUSSELL E. BURNS SR.

Russell Eugene Burns Sr., 73, of Dallas, OR, died at his home on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, surrounded by his family when he lost his battle with cancer. He was born in Verdon to Clyde and Vivian (Arnold) Burns, the seventh of 11 children.

He grew up on a farm and learned how to drive a tractor at a very early age, a skill and joy that lasted him all his life. He joined the U.S. Navy directly after graduating from high school in 1960, serving four years aboard ships in the Pacific arena.

Russell married Becky Lehnert while serving in the Navy and together they raised their four children. He was a man of great faith, firmly believing in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. This knowledge was a great comfort in his last days.

He was a journeyman welder by trade, traveling throughout the U.S. In 1990, he settled his family into a century old house outside Perrydale where he raised Jersey cows, chickens, and grandchildren. A farmer at heart, he enjoyed driving his vintage tracker, mowing his extensive lawns, bird watching, and traveling vacations with his wife of 52 years in their travel trailer.

Russell is survived by eight of his siblings; his wife, Becky; his daughters, Tammy (David) Ames, Jane Toliver; his sons, Russ Jr. (Jeannette), Daniel (Diana); six grandchildren, NiKelly, Jacob, Danny, Dillan, Rusty and Sammy.

He was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; and his beloved granddaughter, Paiten.

Private family services were held. Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center was in charge of arrangements.
