The Falls City High Lady Tigers opened the 2014-15 season with a commanding 41-31 home victory over Syracuse Friday night, out-scoring the visiting Rockets 13-5 in the fourth and decisive quarter.
Sophomore Alyssa Frederick poured in a game-high 16 points and seniors Sydney Armbruster and Baylee Vrtiska chipped in 10 and 8, respectively.
“I thought we played with great effort throughout the game,” Coach Max Milam said. “Our pressure in the second half turned the game our way. We were able to force some turnovers and score – or get to the freethrow line.
“We outscored them 27-15 in the second half,” Milam said.
Frederick was also her team’s top rebounder, with eight, and the Armbruster sisters – Syd and Bailey – grabbed six boards apiece. Vrtiska recorded four assists for the winners.

Saturday, the Lady Tigers improved to 2-0 with a narrow 34-33 win at Tri County. Frederick scored seven her team-high 14 points in the final period and Vrtiska completed a vital four-point play down the stretch.
This one was tight all the way – FC’s biggest lead was seven points.
“It was a close game throught,” Milam said. “We struggled shooting the ball, hopefully from no legs after Friday’s game.
“We did make some big shots late to get the win.”
Frederick added eight boards, while the Armbruster sisters for the second straight game put up identical numbers in rebounds (seven) and steals (six).
