The FCSH Irish scoring explosion found another gear Friday on the Thomas Field turf at Jug Brown Stadium, scoring five times and 38 points on a grand total of nine snaps from center in the opening quarter alone en route to a 66-14 victory over visiting Johnson-Brock.
Senior back Sawyer Kean had TD runs of 15 and 31 yards and caught scoring passes of 42 and 59 yards from classmate Austin Malone, who added a 31-yard TD run. All in the first quarter.
Kean scored for a fifth time less than three minutes into the second quarter – on 39-yard run – and Malone’s conversion pass to Henry Arnold made it 46-6 Irish before the game was 15 minutes old. In the end, Kean touched the pigskin a grand total of eight times last Friday and actually got taken to the turf all of three times. The end zone stopped him the other five. He finished with 106 yards on the ground and 101 through the air.
The Irish showed no ill effects off the bye week, improving to 3-1 with one more tune-up remaining before the Oct. 10 heavyweight bout at unbeaten 2013 Class D1 State Champion Exeter-Milligan. FCSH goes to Lewiston Friday to face an 0-4 Tiger team coming off its stingiest defensive effort of 2014: a 74-18 loss at Lawrence-Nelson.
Lewiston is surrendering 82 points per game. Sacred Heart is scoring 57 points per game.
Tune-up? Hardly. Kick the tires and light the fires, Big Daddy.
