Rita M. Speers

Rita M. Speers, 82, of Falls City, passed away April 8, 2014 at Falls City. She was born Feb. 14, 1932 at Axtell, KS to the late Edward and Johanna (Harpenau) Fangman

On Oct. 15, 1952 she married Vernon Speers at St. Benedict, KS. He passed away February 7, 1996.

Rita was raised in the Seneca, KS area and when the couple married they made their home in Rulo. They moved to Hamlin, KS in 1963, then to Steinauer in 1970 and then to a farm southeast of Salem in 1986. She was a dairy farmer’s wife. She and her husband owned The Parkview Café in Humboldt from 1993 until 1994. She has lived in Falls City since 1995. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Falls City.

Rita is survived by her sons, Keith (Karey), of Falls City, Vernon, Jr. (Kathy), of Steinauer; daughters, Sharon (Larry) Yost, of Superior, Brenda (Howard) Frank, of Steinauer; sister, Roseanna Chandler of Bethany, MO; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her her parents; husband; sons, Wayne and Ric Speers; brothers, Eddie and Francis Fangman; and a granddaughter, Jill Speers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Msgr. Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery at Seneca.

A Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
