Keith M. Brock

Keith M. Brock, 85, of Hiawatha, KS died Sunday morning at the Maple Heights Nursing Home. He was born March 22, 1928, north of Sabetha, the son of George and Opal “Marie” Firkins Brock.

He graduated from Fairview High School in 1944. He served with the United States Navy during WWII aboard the aircraft carrier Tarawa, being discharged at the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. He farmed and operated a dairy north of Hiawatha. He spent most of his working life as a supervisor for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association for Brown, Doniphan, Nemaha and Atchison Counties. He retired in September 1995, after 38 years. After retiring, he was a green thumb worker in Horton.

Keith was a member of the Christian Church. He married Betty J. Stewart Aug. 15, 1954, at the Falls City Christian Church. They were caretakers of the Mount Hope Cemetery Hiawatha for 10 years. They moved to Horton in February 1996; a few year later, returned to Hiawatha to live at Maple Grove Senior Housing. She preceded him in death Feb. 14, 2010.

Survivors include daughter, Lori (Shane ) Flowers, of Hiawatha; son, Jay (Bev) Brock, of Hiawatha; sister, Ione Crumpacker of Topeka, KS; brother, Gene Brock, of Sun City, AZ; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Brock Jr., in infancy.

A Celebration of Keith’s life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 at Christian Center in Hiawatha, with Rev. Charlie Neill officiating.

Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha with military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Tuesday until 5 p.m. Family visitation will be at the Christian Center from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday.
