Two out rally dooms FC Blue Storm Seniors

Auburn managed five runs with two outs en route to a six-run sixth inning Wednesday night at SNC Field to pull away from hosts Falls City for a 7-0 divisional victory in the first round of the Southeast Nebraska Baseball Conference tournament.

FC pitcher Lane Scheitel took the loss, despite being dominant thru the first five innings in which he allowed only two hits and struck out seven, but an error on a pick-off attempt in the first inning allowed Auburn’s Tyler Collin to cross the plate with the rare, first inning game-wining run.

Three passed balls, a hit batsman and an error in the outfield fueled Auburn’s two-out rally.

Chaz Dunn finished 2-2 with a walk for the Blue Storm, who mustered only six hits compared to seven strikeouts against Nick Behrends of Auburn.

Tyler DiGiacomo, Wade Witt, Codie Witt and Austin Malone also recorded singles for FC.

The loss drops FC (10-6) into the consolation bracket of the SENBC tournament where they will look to bounce back tomorrow night at 6 against Tecumseh (2-7). Tecumseh was blanked, 11-0, by Nebraska City.

Nebraska City (7-5) and Auburn (9-3) play Thursday night at 8 for the Southern Division championship.

Plattsmouth escaped with a 3-2 win over Syracuse Wednesday night in Syracuse to advance to the Northern Division title game.

Elmwood-Murdock/Nehawka will square off against Plattsmouth after defeating Wilmar Electric 14-6 in the other Northern division game.

Plattsmouth (7-3) and EMN (6-4) will face off at 8 p.m. Thursday.

SNC Field in Falls City will be the site of the SENBC championship game, as well as the third, fifth and seventh place games.

The seventh place game is set for 11 a.m., followed by fifth at 1:30 and third at 4.
