Robert E. “Gene” Dunn

Robert E. “Gene” Dunn, 83, of Falls City, passed away April 26, 2013. He was born Feb. 17, 1930 at Sioux City, IA to the late Robert and Nora (Whetzel) Dunn.

 

Gene entered the U.S. Army in May of 1951. He served with the 596th Signal Support Group and was honorably discharged in May of 1953.

 

On Dec. 28, 1951 he married Mary-Jean Zoeller at Humboldt.

 

Gene graduated from Rulo High School in 1949. Following graduation he worked various jobs in and around Rulo until entering the Army. After his discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Lincoln in the fall of 1953 where he worked for Western Electric as an Equipment Inspector. In February of 1960 they moved to a farm south of Preston, where he engaged in farming and operated Gene’s Electric part time.

 

In the late 1980’s, he stopped farming and operated his electrician business full time. In 1997, he and Mary Jean moved into Falls City, where he continued to operate Gene‘s Electric.

 

He was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, American Legion, VFW and Falls City Elks Lodge all of Falls City.

 

Gene is survived by his wife, Mary-Jean of Falls City; sons, Steve (Pam), of Lincoln, and Greg (Kris), of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Matt and Andrea Dunn of Marion, Cliff (Kari) Waterbury, of Scottsdale, AZ, Angela Farmer of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Aeva and Mason Farmer, of Lincoln.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at First Christian Church with Pastor Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Inurnment will be in Steele Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

 

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
