Falls City Sacred Heart’s track teams nearly amassed identical victories Saturday in the team portion of the annual Mudecas Track & Field Meet held in Pawnee City.
The Irish boys compiled 140 points to Sterling’s 111, while the Lady Irish tallied 133 to Sterling’s 111, as FC Sacred Heart captured first place in both “B” Divisions.
Will Burenheide (110 hurdles), Lane Barnhill (400), Matt Mullins (pole vault) and Yianni Haralabidis each finished first in these respective events. Barnhill added a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash and helped the 400-meter relay team of Clay Finck, Chaz Dunn and Sawyer Kean capture second. Burenheide earned a bronze in the 300-meter hurdles; Dunn was second to Barnhill in the 400 and to Trey Trauernicht of Sterling in the 800; Finck finished second to Malik Morris of Lincoln Parkview in the 200 and was also part of the fourth place 1600-meter relay team with Kean, Sean Strasheim and Thomas Froeschl.
Froeschl joined Austin Malone, Henry Arnold and Zavan Kirkendall for third place in the 4×800 relay team; Malone was second in the triple jump; Strasheim finished sixth in both the 300 and 110-meter hurdles, while Niemeyer was fifth in the 110 hurdles.
Jarod Fiegener and Brady Cromer were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put. Cromer finished sixth in the discus.
Kelsi Fouraker and Elizabeth Magdanz led the Lady Irish with pair of gold medals. Individually, Fouraker was first in the 800 and third in the 400, while Elizabeth finished first in the pole vault and was second in the 800-meter run. Maggie Goltz and Emily Rohrer had Sacred Heart’s only other individual golds with Goltz winning the triple jump and Rohrer with the best throw in the shot put.
Fouraker and Elizabeth were joined by Rachel Parrish and Abby Magdanz on the first-place 1600-meter relay team. Toni Kean joined Abby, Elizabeth and Kelsi on the 4×100 relay team, which finished third for the Lady Irish.
Kean was second in the 100 meters and sixth in the long jump; Goltz was second in the 200, third in the long jump and fifth in the 100; Rohrer finished sixth in the discus; Kathryn Bieker finished third in the 1600-meter run, just 2.6 seconds behind second. Bieker was fourth in the 3200 and helped the 3200-meter-relay team of Abby Magdanz, Nicole Fiegener and Nicole Kreifels capture fourth place.
The Irish track teams competed in the Lewistion Invitational today at Pawnee City and will “host” the Irish Invitational next Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Syracuse.
