The Humboldt-TR-S speech team finished runner-up in Class C2 of the NSAA State Speech Contest last Friday in Kearney, earning medals in categories. The team, which is coached by Carl Linnerson, finished with 94 points – 10 behind champion Freeman.
It was the school’s best finish since winning Class C2 in 2003.
The Titan speakers came away with five medals, led by Joel Svoboda and Taylor Schafer, who each qualified for finals and medaled in two events. Svoboda was second in Humorous and joined Noah Sherman to place fifth in Duet Acting. Shafer was second in Poetry and third in Serious Interpretation.
Elliott Gonnella was third in Extemperaneous and Carrisa Carlin placed fourth in Informative.
Scoring points but not placing for HTRS was Jacob Herr, Entertainment; Amanda Dyas, Persuasive Speaking.
