The Richardson County Courthouse put new security measures into effect on July 10, 2018, supervised by the Richardson County Sheriff’s Department.
As of July 10th, there will not be firearms or any other weapons allowed in the Richardson County Courthouse by members of the public. Required signage to that effect is posted at the doors, and anyone entering the courthouse has to walk through a metal detector.
Individuals will have to pass through a walk-through metal detector before gaining access to the Courthouse. The metal detector will be placed at the South entrance of the courthouse, and it will be the only point of entry. All other doors will remain locked from the outside.
The public is advised to leave pocket knives, other sharp tools, pepper spray, personal defense items in their vehicles as there will not be anywhere to store items and you will be required to take them back to your vehicle before gaining entry.
The metal detector will be placed at the south handicapped entrance of the courthouse and will be the only point of entry for nonexempt individuals to the courthouse. All other doors will remain locked from the outside and will only be utilized for entry and departure for exempt individuals.
