The Falls City Blue Storm Seniors evened their record last week with a 6-2 win over Elmwood-Murdock-Nehawka.
The Blue Storm grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first inning and tacked on three in the third and one more in the fourth.
After a 1,2,3 first inning on the mound, Kade Bredemeier led off the bottom half of the inning with a single to left field. Zach Beaver then reached first on a dropped third strike, which allowed Bredemeier to reach third. He later scored on an error by the catcher to give FC a 1-0 lead. A stolen base and error allowed Beaver to reach third and again scored on an error by the catcher to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the third James Eickhoff led off with a base hit to LF and promptly stole second base. Beaver followed with a single to center, and with two outs Ransom Campbell lined a shot to left field to make it 3-0. Chaydyn Butler then came to the plate and got a base hit to score both Beaver and Campbell to push the score to 5-0.
In the fourth inning, Bredemeier got things going with a two-out single to RF. He wasted no time stealing second and third base on consecutive pitches before reaching the plate due to an error by the catcher to make the score 6-0. In the top of the fifth inning, the visitors finally got on the board thanks to a two-run home run by B. Hansen. However, that is as close as the score would get as FC held on for the win.
Bredemeier led the offensive attack going 2-3 with two runs scored. Butler was 1-3 at the plate with two RBI and Beaver and Bredemeier each swiped three bases.
Bredemeier also picked up the win on the mound, tossing five innings, giving up five hits and two runs. Jake Craig came on for the final two innings allowing no hits for the save. The win gave FC a 2-2 record for the early season. The Seniors will hit the road on Wednesday to take on Tecumseh and will be back home on Thursday to host Beatrice.
The Juniors also picked up the win on Thursday night against Elmwood-Murdock-Nehawka. The Blue Storm got all their offense in the first two innings and held on against a late charge for the 7-5 win.
Will Vitosh led off the game for FC with a walk; then on a 0-2 count, Del Casteel launched a shot over the right-field wall to give Falls City a 2-0 lead. Four consecutive singles by Carson Bredemeier, Braden Oliver, Stephen Acton and Cade Simon led to another run, and a sac fly by Jack Fiegener made it 4-0. Elmwood got one run back in the second thanks to three singles, but FC came right back. Vitosh singled up the middle followed by a base hit by Casteel to right field. Bredemeier then sent a base hit to center to score Vitosh to make it 5-1. A groundout by Oliver scored Casteel, and another groundout by Acton scored Bredemeier to make it 7-1.
Elmwood got one run in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to get close but FC slammed the door and held on for the win.
Casteel was 2-4 at the plate with a home run, and two RBI and Bredemeier was 3-3 with two runs scored. Acton got the win. Tossing five innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits. Casteel came on in relief and threw two innings, allowing no hits and no runs. The win gave FC a 1-1 record for the year.
The Juniors will hit the road on Wednesday, May 30 to take on Tecumseh at 5:30 p.m. and will host Beatrice on Thursday also at 5:30 p.m.
