Kansas man charged with two felonies

A Hiawatha, KS, man was charged with two counts of felony child abuse last week in Richardson County Court for his role in a March 15 traffic stop.

Court documents allege that a witness saw a man later identified as 27-year-old Jeffrey S. Landon, driving a dark colored Suburban erratically at a high-rate of speed and that a child was seen hanging out the passenger side window with no child restraint device in use.

The witness, who later identified himself as Jason Edie, an off-duty Kansas State Patrolman and former Falls City resident, phoned the Falls City Police Department at approximately 4:45 p.m. and informed them he was following the vehicle and provided the dispatcher with the vehicle’s location.

Officers with the FCPD made contact with the suspect, who at the time was being detained on the ground by Edie. Landon allegedly smelled of alcohol and was hostile to the officers, threatened them and used vulgar language.

Landon was released on a $4,500 bond after providing ten percent and is scheduled to appear again in Richardson County Court on May 1.
