Southeast Nebraska voters have an opportunity to meet and speak with Republican elected officials and candidates for various state offices on Sunday, September 8th. A committee representing Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, Richardson, and Otoe County Republican Party organizations announces the plans for the Republican 5-County Barbeque that day at 5 pm at the Johnson Legion Hall located at 300 Main Street in Johnson.
The event will include a free meal, time to meet and greet candidates, remarks from candidates, and an opportunity to obtain campaign information such as yard signs and other campaign materials and find ways to volunteer for campaigns. There will be an auction running throughout the event for Husker football and volleyball tickets, patriotic and Trump-themed items and much more. Funds from these items will help offset the costs of the barbeque and all proceeds are shared between the five participating county Republican parties.
“We believe it is important for voters to have an opportunity to meet the candidates and hear directly from them,” said Planning Committee Chairperson Ken Riley. “This gives area citizens a chance to ask the candidates questions directly. This is a great opportunity to see so many candidates in one location at one time.”
Candidates and office holders who have been invited to participate include U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts, Congressman Adrian Smith, Lt. Governor Joe Kelly, Senator Julie Slama, and more. The free meal is available on a first-come first-served basis.
