Douglas “Doug” Voegele, 81, of Falls City, NE, passed away June 23, 2024 at Falls City. He was born October 19, 1942 at Salem, NE to Melvin and Helen (Santo) Voegele.
In 1972 he met and would later marry Barb McGinnis-Meinzer on May 18, 1974 at Rulo, NE.
Doug was raised on the family farm in Rulo and graduated Sacred Heart High School in 1961 where he excelled as the fullback on the football team and played basketball. He attended St. Benedictine College in Atchison, KS on a football scholarship. Doug graduated from Peru State College with a teaching degree. He taught History and coached football in Holmesville, and Barneston, NE. In 1970 he returned to Falls City and worked for Elliott Meat Locker. He later took employment at Bern Meats in Bern, KS, he thoroughly enjoyed working there. He retired at the age of 76 due to his health. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Doug is survived by his wife, Barb of Falls City, children, Amy Olberding of Falls City, Mike Meinzer of Lincoln, NE, Marci Sullivan and her husband Todd of Lincoln, Mark Meinzer of Watertown, SD, brother, Melvin (Sherrie Warner) Voegele, Jr. of Gretna, NE, sisters, Mary Helen McAndrews, Margaret Ohm and Susan Davidson all of Omaha, NE, grandchildren, Jon Popejoy, Josie Calhoun, Kylee Meinzer, Robert Olberding, Jaydin Meinzer and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, sisters, Lillian in infancy and Doris Goltz, brother, Ken, grandson, Timothy Meinzer and sons-in-laws, Tyrone Popejoy and Bobby Olberding.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Jim Meysenburg officiating. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home and the family will receive friends following the rosary.
