The annual Cobblestone Festival returns to Falls City this week from Aug. 21-24, featuring four days of family-friendly activities under this year’s theme, “Hometown Superheroes.”
The celebration begins Thursday, August 21, with the Falls City Fire Department Fishing Contest at 5:00 p.m. at Stanton Lake.
The Friday, August 22, schedule includes the BPO Does Supermarket Sweep at Dollar Fresh, a children’s art class at Heartland Fine Arts, food and sales vendors from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Stone Street, Sam’s Amusements from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
The P.I.E. Little Mister and Miss Cobblestone Crowning at 6 p.m. on the courthouse lawn, the Humane Society Cutest Pet Crowning at 6:15 p.m., a watermelon eating contest at 6:30 p.m. at 1700 Stone Street, youth wrestling at 6:30 p.m., and live music at 7:00 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge.
Saturday, August 23, events start early with the Community Medical Center Fun Run at 7:00 a.m. at the CMC Nature Trail.
Uptown activities include a car show from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the 1800 block of Stone Street, an antique tractor and equipment show from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Richardson County Ag Museum, food and sales vendors from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., a frog jumping contest at 9:00 a.m., the Buchanan Highlanders Bagpipe Concert at 10:15 a.m., and the parade at 11:00 a.m.
Afternoon events include hot wheels races at 1:00 p.m., the Fire Departments Water Wars from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sam’s Amusements from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m., a dodgeball tournament at 1:30 p.m., and Train Songs and Tales by David Seay at 2:00 p.m.
The Falls City Area Jaycees Demolition Derby will be held at 6 p.m. at Jaycees’ Arena.
The festival wraps up Sunday, August 24, with food and sales vendors from noon to 5:00 p.m., the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby at 11:30 a.m. in the FC Middle School gymnasium, Sam’s Amusements from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., and the FCHS Music Alumni Concert at 2:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
