Ramona June (Fritz) Ebel (Moni), age 89 of Falls City, NE, passed away January 31, 2025 at Falls City.
She was born December 22, 1935, Verdon NE rural area the eldest of 6 daughters to Robert and Deloris (Niemeyer) Fritz. Ramona attended Verdon Public School, graduating in 1953. She went on to the Omaha School of Commerce, attaining secretarial skills while working at Safeway. Returning to Falls City area she worked at the Richardson County Extension Office in Falls City NE., where she met Charles W Ebel. Ramona was a lifelong active member at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church, north of Falls City, having been baptized, confirmed and then married there to Charles on March 9, 1957.
Charles and Ramona first farmed and lived south of Reserve KS, moved west of Morrill KS and finally settled in 1968 at the current Ebel family farm on the Kansas Nebraska state line south of Falls City. Ramona was a typical farm wife proudly raising their 4 children, cooking great healthy meat and potato meals, putting out a large garden, canning the produce and sharing the bounty of their farm with friends and family. There was always a cake in her covered cake pan or a cherry or fruit cobbler in the summer, or an apple crisp in the fall, sitting at the back or to the side of the oven. Having lived through the Depression Era she believed in making do with what you could grow, do yourself, and make use of everything in other ways. One way was by saving and using containers like Cool Whip, Cottage Cheese, or jars that once held mayonnaise. Those were used to put away food for future use in the freezer. Her feistiness came out when she was confronted about getting rid of items. She was a saver of the highest order and didn’t mess with her things!
When not doing farmwife chores Ramona was an active member at St. Paul’s belonging to Altar Guild, LWML, choir, Stewardship Committee and with Charles the Couples Club. She followed and watched her children in their many activities while they were at home and continued by following the Grandchildren, as a proud grandmother.
Charles passed away on October 23, 2020. Ramona continued living at their family home until 2022 when she moved to Jonesbrook Estates Assisted Living in Falls City. On January 5 Ramona’s health deteriorated and she was hospitalized. She went peacefully to our Lord on January 31, 2025.
Ramona is survived by her 4 children David Ebel of Verdon NE, Deanne Johnson and husband Lowell (LD) of Diagonal IA, Bradley Ebel and wife Sue of Hiawatha KS, and Lori Ebel May of Lincoln NE.
