Fern I. Schawang, 88 of Falls City, passed away January 17, 2018 in Falls City. She was born April 1, 1929 in Rural Richardson County to Arthur and Lena (Johnson) Kirkendall. Fern was raised in the Barada, area and graduated from Shubert High School in 1947. She attended Peru State Teachers College for one year and obtained her teaching certificate. She also attended University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She taught at Patterson Country School and Arnold Country School. She taught for 13 years. She married Roy “Bud” Schawang on November 30, 1968 in Rulo. When married they established their home on the farm Southeast of Barada, She was a farm wife and homemaker. Fern moved to Falls City in 2012. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Arago, NE and Catholic Daughters, BPO Does and the Retired Teachers Association. Fern is survived by cousins and step-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother in infancy. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rulo with Father David Oldham presiding. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery. A Parrish Rosary will be recited on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. Family will receive friends following the Rosary.
