Ten FC High senior art students attended Missouri Western’s 4th annual Visual Arts Day last week. Each student entered an individual piece of work in the competition at the college. Abby Gilkerson’s pastel drawing was chosen for an Award of Artistic Excellence.
Along with more than 900 other high school students from across the region, they spent the day learning new art skills and techniques. Contests in sidewalk art design and pottery throwing continued throughout the day. Mini sessions were offered in print-making, painting, drawing, graphic arts, image transfers and photography, to mention a few.
MWSU presents this day to allow high school art students the opportunity to spend a whole day just doing art. It gives them the chance to try different media that they may not be familiar with, and to perfect those they are. Teachers can see what other schools are doing, as well.
