Journal earns all-time best six NPA awards

Several Falls City Journal entries from 2014 publications garnered awards in the annual Nebraska Press Association Better Newspaper Contest it was announced Saturday night at the NPA convention held in Lincoln. 

Photographs by Editor Jason Schock earned first place in three separate categories, including: Sports Feature Photo, for his March 4, 2014 photo titled “Tigers, That’s Who”, following the Tigers’ district championship victory over Lincoln Christian at Nebraska City; Feature Photography, for his Jan. 21, 2014 photo titled “Kaboom!”, which featured the old Rulo bridge demolition; and Breaking News Photography, for his Oct. 7, 2014 photo titled “Fire Tragedy Averted”, showing Brian Dixon and John Moon III leading fire victim Lisa Williams to safety.

Managing Editor Nikki McKim earned first place in Personal Column writing for her column “Walk, Don’t Run”, while Journal Office Manager Chelsie Alexander’s brainchild, the “Photo of the Week” series, earned the newspaper second place in Reader Interaction.

Schock and McKim also earned first place in Breaking News for their joint effort on the story “We All Feel Betrayed”, which detailed the case of former Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Nincehelser. 

Members of the Arizona Newspaper Association judged more than 3,400 separate entries from newspapers all over Nebraska.
