Falls City Sacred Heart will kick off its ongoing-state-record 29th straight postseason Thursday at Jug Brown Stadium, as the seventh-seeded and 6-2 Irish host 10th-seed 5-3 Emerson-Hubbard at 4 p.m. The Pirates will be making a 220-mile drive southeast from their home 20 miles east of Wayne.
The Irish finished the regular season last Thursday with a 62-14 victory over Lincoln Parkview Christian. The game was played at Raymond Central High School. FCSH’s two losses this season came in the opener, to defending Missouri 8-man champion North Andrew (56-48), which remains unbeaten on the season at 9-0, and in Week 6 at 2013 Class D1 State Champion Exeter-Milligan (46-20). Exeter, too, is still unbeaten. A win over the Pirates likely sends FCSH five and one-half hours north to Stuart, NE, on Wednesday, Nov. 5, for a rematch of last year’s Class D2 State Championship, a 63-14 Irish landslide victory. Stuart is 8-0 and seeded second in the 16-team east bracket. The third round is Nov. 11; semifinals, Nov. 17; D2 Championship, 10:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
