The Salem Village Board this month asked for — and received — a $10,000 grant from the “Trees for Nebraska Towns Program” in an effort to make improvements and repairs to Maple Cemetery.
The request, approved late last week, will be utilized to purchase 50 trees (between six to 12-feet tall) for the cemetery, which has never recovered from a 1997 storm that downed some 60 trees.
That’s not the half of it – it may not be a third of it. If the Maple Cemetery Board and village leaders, who are mounting a capital campaign to do much more than buy trees, can raise $10,000 from area residents and/or folks with family connections to Maple Cemetery, the “Trees” grant will triple in size to $30,000. That’s because they’ve already received a $10,000 matching gift from an “anonymous” donor who happens to be the state’s most famous celebrity.

After payment is made you will be taken back to the home page where you can use your log-in name and password to begin using your subscription.
