Somehow, driver escapes major injury when car split in two

    A seatbelt couldn’t prevent a 57-year-old Falls City woman from being ejected from her vehicle as it got split in two halves by a grain truck, yet she walked away from the most violent of car crashes with little more than a cut on her head.
    Somehow, Katherine Elwonger, of 924 Lane St., is able to give a first-hand account of a car collision as extreme as they come. At about 4:30 p.m. last Tuesday (June 16), Elwonger was eastbound on Hwy. 8, apparently didn’t stop at the intersection with Hwy. 75, and was hit flush by a northbound grain truck with such force that the Taurus was actually split in half, one piece eventually coming to rest 75 feet from the other piece.
