Top-ranked Falls City Sacred Heart earned wins 21 and 22 last week at Prichard Auditorium, then received their 23rd win without even taking the court, as their first-round sub-district opponent, Parkview Christian, forfeited.
FCSH will face the winner of tonight’s Sterling, Lewiston game Thursday at 7 p.m. in the sub-district final at Johnson.
The Lady Irish built a 29-14 halftime lead Friday against visiting Palmyra and held on for a 50-35 victory.
Sophomore Maggie Goltz hit 6-of-7 free throws en route to a game-high 17 points to go with six rebounds. Freshman Haylee Heits pulled down nine boards and hit all five field goal attempts to finish with 13 points, while junior Elizabeth Magdanz connected on a pair of three-pointers and reached double figures with 10 points.
Elizabeth paced FCSH with 15 points last Tuesday, including 6-for-6 at the stripe, in their 62-45 victory over North Andrew (MO).
FCSH jumped on North Andrew early and led 19-9 at the end of one and 33-16 at the break.
The Lady Irish converted 17 of their 22 free throws and forced 25 turnovers, which helped them overcome a 1-for-13 performance from the three-point line. Heits posted 13 points and nine boards, while Goltz tallied 12 and six.
FCSH dominated Sterling by an average of 30 points per game in their two previous contests this season and held Lewiston to a baker’s dozen in a 56-13 rout back in December.
The D2-2 sub-district features eighth-ranked Diller-Odell and ninth-ranked Exeter-Milligan, so, should the Lady Irish advance to next Friday’s district final, expect to see one of those two teams.
