Joan McCartney, 74, of Falls City, passed away Jan. 11, 2014 at Lincoln. She was born Oct. 30, 1939 at Ft. Collins, CO to the late Leonard Hansen, Sr. and Inez (Kissell) Hansen.
In 1956 she married Charles McCartney at Delta Junction, AK. They later divorced.
Joan moved to Alaska in her teens with her family in 1954 and attended Anchorage High School. When married the couple established their home in Anchorage and she was a homemaker until taking employment with the Anchorage School district and then with the Municipality of Anchorage.
They moved to Wellington, CO in 1982 where she cared for her mother. She moved to Vancouver, WA, before moving to Falls City in 1989, where she has lived since. She was active in the Anchorage community and belonged to the Anchorage Dart Association as well as the PTA.
Joan is survived by her son, Edward A. McCartney, of Anchorage; daughters, Anitia (James) Gilbreath, of Anchorage, and Kathryn Ann Merriam, of Dobbins, CA; brother, Leonard (Twila) Hansen, of Falls City; grandchildren, Jennifer Kitchens, of Norman, OK, Jason Kennedy, of Anchorage, Rachel Merriam, of Pensacola, FL, Amanda Edwards, of Elk Grove, Ca.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Patricia Pierce Miller, and step-father, Fred Allen Frantz.
No Services are planned.
In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
