The FC High cross country team ran at the Tecumseh Country Club Friday, as medalist Lainey Larsen finished 15th to lead the Lady Tigers to a third-place team finish.
“The rest of the girls were close behind,” Coach Cody Hawley said. “The first five girls started off conservatively in the first lap and moved up through the pack on the second loop. This group has developed a “pack” mentality and it will serve them very well this season. They are going to continue to improve and today took a step towards the end of their season goal.”
Freshman Kyle Leafty led the Tiger boys, earning a medal with nine place. “He ran a wonderful race and moved into the 2nd fastest time for the Tigers at the JCC invite,” Hawley said. Other good showings were from Brandon Gibson and Anthony Baker. They both moved into the top 10 all-time performances.
“The boys’ team has a lot of potential to make large improvements in the team standings. Hard work in practice will help shore up all the runners and help them make the gains in the meets for the remainder of the year,” Hawley said.
Dylan Leafty led the middle school boys’ team, finishing third.
The cross-country teams, including the junior high, travel to Fairbury Thursday.
