FC Journal earns several awards in annual NPA Contest

Falls City Journal Editor Jason Schock received first place in Breaking News Photography for this January 11, 2012 photo titled "Broken Wrist Injury." Several Falls City Journal entries from 2012 publications garnered awards in the annual Nebraska Press Association Better Newspaper Contest, it was announced Saturday night at the NPA convention held at Lincoln’s Downtown Holiday Inn.

Editor Jason Schock earned first place in Agricultural Advertisement for a November 2012 ad purchased by local farmers pledging their support for EDGE and the new CGB facility. He also earned first in Breaking News Photography for his January 11, 2012 photo titled “Broken Wrist Injury” (above) which was described as “A great breaking news shot, that told the story” and placed second in Headline Writing. Sports Editor Jim Langan earned first place in Sports Column writing for his column “For What It’s Worth” (specifically the column which appeared in the Dec. 18, 2012 Journal) that was praised by judges as “well researched and well-argued” while Journal Advertising Director Nikki McKim earned third place in Feature Photography for her August, 2012 photo “Credentialed” (below), which was described as “Nice angled, showing the excitement and commotion of covering a President.”Journal Advertising Director Nikki McKim earned third place in Feature Photography this photo she took in August of 2012 during President Obama's campaign stop in Council Bluffs, IA.

Entries from newspapers all over Nebraska are judged each year during the Nebrasak Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.
