Single vehicle accident claims life of former Shubert man

A 71-year-old Papillion man, formerly of Shubert, died Thursday night, Aug. 2, in a one-vehicle accident on 719 Road between 651 and 652 Avenue, in the Shubert-Indian Cave area. Dennis A. Last was traveling east on 719 Road when he apparently lost control of his 2003 Crown Victoria after he had topped a hill on the gravel road. The car went off the south side of the road and rolled, pinning Mr. Last inside. He was dead at the accident scene.  There were no passengers in the car.

The victim, who shares a cattle operation with his brother, Merylin Last of Shubert, was en route to check on cattle when the accident took place. Merylin Last came upon the accident scene on Friday morning.

The accident was investigated by the Richardson County Sheriff’s office, assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol. Members of the Nemaha Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.
