When it comes to High School individual classes, the FCHS Class of 1948, without much doubt, earns the title.
On Saturday evening June 25th, 10 members of the class met for their 38th individual class annual reunion, held at the Senior Center. That includes every year for the last 18 years. The class sponsors the Wall of Fame under the guidance of Rex Jones and Bob Ferguson. The initial selection for the Wall was in 2003. Bios and photos of 22 Alumni are on the Wall opposite the front door of FCHS.
Of the 84 graduates, 47 are deceased.
Marlan Downey, Dallas, TX, a legend in the international petroleum industry earns the “Coming the greatest distance” award. In mid-week, he and his wife, Maria, were at their “cottage” in Cornwall, England. Marlan caught a train for the 5-hour ride to London where he boarded a flight to Dallas. After staying over night in his home there, he flew to Kansas City on Saturday morning, rented a car to drive to Falls City, and was at the Senior Citizen Center by mid-afternoon. He left the reunion dinner early to catch a flight back to Texas.
Three members of the class—Downey and Doug & Dave Brenner are in the Wall of Fame.
Out-of-town members and spouces attending the Saturday night meeting were Dave Brooke of Platte City, MO; Marlan Downey of Dallas, TX; Elaine Solt Hall and Jim of Overland Park, KS; Lewis Weick and Darlene of Washington, IL.
Members and spouses from the Falls City area were Joan Hilgenfeld Zoeller, Norma Lee Constantine Duerfeldt and Marcin, Cecil Faller, Robert Ferguson and Lee, Rex Jones and Virginia, and Paul Weinert and Mary Jane. Marjorie Herold Fleskoski (Mrs. Joe) was a guest.
