True Blue-We’ll all stick together, In all kinds of weather, For dear old Nebraska U

While the happenings inside Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium on fall Saturdays are less sure-fire than they once were, two certainties remain: All the seats will be taken and Butch and Dobey Haws will occupy a pair of them in the northwest corner. And while the some 92,000 “Greatest Fans in College Football” doggedly pass through the gates in time for the Tunnel Walk, the two “Greatest of the Greatest” are equally unwavering (unFaltering?) about encouraging their players when they exit the field. Dobey was honored prior to last Friday’s regular season finale against Iowa for attending every single Nebraska home game the past 50 years, beginning with a 14-10 victory over TCU in the 1966 season-opener. It was the 20th-consecutive sellout, played in front of 60,974. That streak stretched to 347 Friday - and Dobey has been there for all but 19. That’s not even the half of it. The truth is, she hasn’t just seen every game - she’s seen EVERY PLAY! Butch and Dobey don’t leave until the Huskers leave — win, lose, or even lose to K-State.
Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory.
The Journal will interview the Falls City-native Superfans Thursday and then let you know next week what it takes to be “The Greatest of the Greatest.” (ED NOTE - They don’t just let anyone through with Big Cletus Billy Bob Teeth and an Extreme Big Foam Butt.)
