MARJORIE EMMERT

Marjorie Charline Emmert, 83, of Topeka, KS, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017. Marj was born Oct. 22, 1933 on the family farm in DuBois, where she grew up to Lloyd and Thelma Lee Irwin.

Marjorie graduated from Salem High School. On July 1, 1954, she and Virgil Emmert, Jr. were united in marriage. He passed away on April 6, 2016.

 Marj was a military wife and a self-made woman. She was strong, beautiful and talented in cooking, sewing, embroidery, gardening and a master of many crafts. Marj volunteered with the Girl Scouts, taught Sunday school, played piano, loved animals and babies in general but her grandchildren in particular. Marj was brilliant with finances. She worked for H&R Block for more than 30 years, training many in that organization as well as some in the IRS.

 She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Terri (Rick) Sargent, of Topeka, Rev. Dr. Bruce (Melissa) Emmert, of Basehor, KS, Brian Emmert, of Topeka, and Mike (Jenn) Emmert, of Topeka; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Martha June Caplinger, of Kansas City, MO; and brother, Robert Lee Irwin, of Lincoln.
Marj was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Timberlake.

 Her family will celebrate her life with a private service.
