WILBUR DEAN

Wilbur L. Dean, 94, of Hiawatha, KS, died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Falls City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident just a few days. He was born at Sabetha, KS, on April 14, 1923, one of three children born to Clarence Leslie and Lillian Barnes Dean.
He attended Washington High School near Kansas City before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1947, during which time he served during World War II. He moved to South Dakota to live and work a few years prior to working for the 3M Company, where he spent most of his working life before retiring. Wilbur moved to the Hiawatha area in the late 1980’s to be near family.
Wilbur made the statement he was Lutheran. He loved to read J.D. Robb books.
Survivors include a brother, Orville Dean, of Falls City; sister, Pauline Constant, Denver, CO; several nieces and nephews, including Debbie Holloway and Terry Dean, both of Falls City, and Jerry Dean, of St. Joseph, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leland.
Funeral services are planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl officiating. Military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard. Private family inurnment will be at Hamlin Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends a half hour prior to services.
