PHYLLIS TAYLOR

Phyllis Jean (Albin) Taylor, 95, of Humboldt, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt. She was born on July 4, 1921, on a farm south of Humboldt, to Fred Jacob and Fannie Hazel (Bacon) Albin.  
Phyllis was raised on the family farm and attended Rose Dale country school.  The family later moved to the Honey Creek area where Phyllis attended Honey Creek High School graduating with the class of 1938.  After graduating, she moved to Lincoln to help her cousin doing housework.  While working in Lincoln, Phyllis met Harvey H. Taylor.
On Dec. 16, 1943, Phyllis was united in marriage to Harvey Hornsby Taylor in Lincoln. To this union five children, Harvey, Harriet, Joe, William, and Melvin were born. The couple began their lives living in Lincoln where Harvey worked as a lens grinder. They moved back to Phyllis’s parents’ home while Harvey tried farming in Missouri. Phyllis and Harvey then moved their family to Omaha where Harvey worked as an optician and Phyllis was a waitress. Phyllis worked for the Brandeis Store in Downtown Omaha, serving as a waitress at the Pompaine Room, Hamburger Heaven, and the Tea Room for twenty-five years.
In 2005, she moved to Humboldt and resided at the Parkview Apartments until moving to Colonial Acres Nursing Home in 2013.  Phyllis was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Omaha, Humboldt Bible Church, and the Golden Oldies card club. While at the nursing home, she enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, and visiting with people.  
Phyllis said about living at the nursing home, “I’m having the time of my life here and I’m perfectly content.”  
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey; son, Harvey Michael Taylor; daughter, Harriet Jean Merkuris; sisters Dorothy (Carl) Lee and Glennis (Robert) Dolan; brother Kenneth Albin; daughter-in-law, Linda Taylor; and brothers-in-law Pete Hanschen and Richard “Dick” Riley.
Phyllis is survived by her loving sons: Joe (Josie) Taylor, Dawson; William Frank Taylor of Humboldt; Melvin Lee Taylor of Fremont; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters: Doris “Peggy” Hanschen of Gordonville, MO; Ola Riley of Humboldt; sister-in-law Velma Albin of Sabetha, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Northridge Humboldt (Bible) Church at 625 Lincoln St. in Humboldt, Nebraska with Dan Dallmann officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
  Interment will be held at 3:00 pm. on Friday, March 3, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
 Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
