LEONARD HANSEN

Leonard M. Hansen Jr., 78, of Falls City, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at home with his son Stan by his side after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Leonard was born on Jan. 1, 1937 in Ft. Collins, CO, to Leonard and Inez Hansen. He was the bouncing baby brother to his two older sisters, Patricia and Joan.
He lived a long and full life many people only dream of. From Colorado, to his military service in Panama, to Alaska, he left his mark.
Aviation was his passion and he spent many years flying Cessna airplanes over the mountains, lakes and glaciers of Alaska. It was his request that his ashes be scattered over those same mountains. In addition to his piloting, he was a certified A&P mechanic and spent his time rebuilding many planes in the Falls City area.
If there was anything he loved as much as airplanes it was Nascar racing. He was an avid fan and his favorite driver was always #8, Dale Earnhardt. He was a master chef on the grill and delighted the family with many wonderful meals throughout the years.
Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Hansen; mother, Inex and step-father, Alan Frantz; sisters, Patricia Miller and Joan McCartney; uncle and aunt, Bob and Ester Kissel.
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Twila Hansen; children, Rita Shaw, Jim Corning, Fay Herold and Stan McElroy; nieces, Kathy Merriam and Anita Gillbreath; nephews, Edward McCartney, and Brad Pierce; great nieces and his very recent pride and joy, great-great nephew, Colin; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as many life long friends all over the country.
His final resting place will be the mountains of Alaska.
