Blue Storm Seniors off to 3-1 start

The Blue Storm Seniors improved to 3-1 on the season Sunday as they jumped on top of visiting Syracuse with 10 first-inning runs and held them off 13-10 at SNC Field.

Chaz Dunn finished 3-4 with a double at the plate for FC with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Lane Scheitel and Codie Witt also had two RBIs apiece. Brandt Vice, Wade Witt, and Tyler DiGiacomo each scored twice for the Blue Storm.

Reese Hogue (2-0) allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings and struck out 10, walked seven and gave up six hits for FC. Closer Logan Scheitel put away the final two outs to record the save.

Already ahead 8-3, Nebraska City added nine runs in the top of the seventh to blow the game open. Collectively, NC finished 13-31 at the plate with 12 RBIs and seven walks.

Chase Thompson led FC with a pair of hits and a run scored. Codie Witt and Reese Hogue were responsible for the other two FC runs.

In his third appearance of the summer, Lane Scheitel (0-1) took the loss for FC after he gave up three earned on six hits in three innings pitched. Thompson, Codie Witt and Wade Witt combined to pitch the final four innings for FC and gave up three, three and six earned runs, respectively.

Doniphan County    3

FC’s four first-inning runs ultimately proved to be enough as they held off Doniphan County, KS, last Wednesday at Wathena, KS, to improve to 3-0.

Chaz Dunn doubled, scored a run and reached twice for FC. Reese Hogue also doubled and scored a run for FC. Tyler DiGiacomo and Derek Bippes were responsible for the other two FC runs.

Bippes also went the distance in picking up the win in his first outing for the Blue Storm. He struck out eight, while walking just two and allowed three earned runs en route to his first victory of the season.

 

Blue Storm Juniors

Falls City’s Blue Storm Juniors dropped two of their three games last week and fell to 2-3 on the young season.

After picking up a 3-1 victory in Wathena, KS over Doniphan County last Wednesday, the Juniors fell to Syracuse 10-8 in Auburn on Friday and then dropped a close one, 8-7, to Auburn on Sunday afternoon.

Colton Holman put Auburn ahead in the top of the sixth with his eventual game-winning RBI single.

Weston Witt had a pair of doubles and two RBIs and Bailey Witt was 3-4 for FC  in the loss to Auburn.

Weston also took the loss on the mound against Auburn. In six innings, he allowed 11 hits, eight runs, of which only five were earned, while striking out five and walking two.

Syracuse scored the game’s first nine runs before FC charged back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and five the next inning.

Tyler DiGiacomo led FC after a 3-4 performance at the plate, which included two doubles and two runs scored. Logan Scheitel, Austin Malone and Trenton Pentecost each drove in two runs for FC.

DiGiacomo took the loss for FC with 6 IP, 10 R, 2 ER, 4 BB and 4 K’s.

Logan Scheitel had a tremendous night on the bump for FC, as he fanned 14 batters in a complete game victory.

FC jumped on top with two runs in the first, as Weston Witt’s ground out to third drove in Sawyer Kean and then Preston Deckinger drove in Bailey Witt two batters later.

Scheitel allowed only two hits and kept Doniphan scoreless until the bottom of the sixth.
